About eXgine

There is no separate eXgine integration. The service is configured and accessed through QashPay.

The relationship

How does eXgine work with QashPay?

QashPay

QashPay manages the merchant-facing payment platform and relationship — the payment gateway, onboarding, transaction routing, merchant accounts and related services. All marketing, merchant acquisition and onboarding go through QashPay.

eXgine

eXgine

QashPay configures the appropriate local currency merchant accounts, while eXgine provides the specialist FX component for qualifying Multi-Currency Processing transactions.

Both companies were founded by Antony Quaife, which is why the two are designed against the same problem rather than integrated after the fact. They remain separate companies with separate responsibilities, set out below.

Leadership

Who runs eXgine

Antony Quaife Chief Executive Officer and Founder

Antony has spent twenty years across the working parts of a regulated FX business — dealing and trading, running a book, treasury, credit and risk, compliance, operations and sales. He built delivery FX desks and products for BGC Partners and MF Global, two of the world’s largest brokerages, and in 2007 developed one of the first delivery FX trading systems aimed specifically at sourcing best-in-class liquidity for settlement. By 28 he owned his own FCA-regulated FX brokerage in London.

That work took him into online markets, where he found the gap both of his companies exist to close: merchant card processing had no way to hedge the currency of a foreign card in real time. He founded QashPay and eXgine to close it — the platform to take the payment, the FX company to fix the rate. He holds shares and directorships in three businesses, and takes part in events including the World Economic Forum in Davos.

Kevin L. Chief Technology Officer

Kevin leads technology and engineering at eXgine, overseeing the architecture, infrastructure and systems that power the platform. He brings more than ten years of experience building highly scalable systems, with a background spanning backend engineering, distributed systems, data platforms and cloud infrastructure.

Our background

Where eXgine came from

eXgine is run by a small team whose combined experience in institutional foreign exchange runs to more than 70 years.

Through the 2000s that team watched the FX market move from voice trading to a fully electronic one, and worked on the ECN systems that made it happen — platforms where participating banks quoted real-time spot FX and the ECN aggregated those prices into a single pool of liquidity. A trader could deal up to $500 million at the click of a button, with the system offsetting the position across multiple liquidity providers automatically.

Antony Quaife brought that background together with experience building international payment systems, and found the gap. International online card transactions were not being hedged at the moment of the transaction. The currency exposure was left either to the card schemes, converting on a cycle of several days at their own rate, or to acquirers converting at merchant or scheme settlement. Either way the conversion happened after the sale, at a rate the merchant had no part in setting.

Closing that gap needed two things: a payment platform that could open a local merchant account per currency, and a foreign exchange company that could fix the rate the moment a qualifying sale completed. He founded both. That common origin is why Multi-Currency Processing is a setting inside QashPay rather than an integration bolted onto it — the platform and the FX were designed against the same problem.

It is also the whole premise of fixing the rate at the point of sale, and of recording every conversion as a trade with a rate and a value date you can see.

eXgine is deliberately narrow. The foreign exchange component is the whole of what it does — the payment platform, merchant onboarding, transaction routing and the commercial relationship all sit with QashPay. It is built to be a specialist inside a larger platform rather than a business that needs to be everything.

Can I use eXgine without QashPay?

No. eXgine is not a standalone FX platform and is not available to businesses outside QashPay. Its services are available only to eligible QashPay merchants, and are configured and accessed through the QashPay platform. Merchants do not integrate directly with eXgine.
